BUTTE - It was a heartbreaking way to end a season, but the Drummond Lady Trojan Softball Team played it hard all the way to the end with class and hustle.
The blue and white fell to Huntley Project 14-0 in the opener Saturday before getting edged 3-2 in the finale against Browning.
Huntley Project 14, Drummond 0
In Game 1 the Lady Trojans ran into a buzz saw by the name of Addy Hultgren. Huntgren is a seasoned pitcher and was more than the Drummond batters could handle as she struck out all nine batters she faced over three innings of play.
Meanwhile her teammates were busy mounting a 14-run attack that was highlighted by a nine-run second.
Drummond Senior Allie Parke started on the mound, striking out one against five walks.
Browning 3, Drummond 2
In a rematch of teams that saw Drummond collect its first win of the year in April, Browning rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the win.
Drummond started strong with leadoff hitter Krystal Hager reaching base on a walk. She moved to third on a base hit by Hannah Bradshaw and came home on a passed ball.
In the fourth, the Lady Trojans added a second score when a leadoff single by Liz Cartmill was cashed in by her sister Mikayla with an RBI base hit of her own.
Parke pitched a solid game on the mound, striking out six against just one base on balls.
